The success of the investments made in a plantation depends on applying the latest and correct techniques at the moment.

In this sense, some of the most important points to get success growing avocados are choosing the "feet" or rootstocks and varieties, on the basis of physical and chemical characteristics of the soil, water and climatic conditions of the place.

Because of that in our nursery we offer the following patterns:

MEXICAN BREED ROOTSTOCKS

Reproduction by seed

MEXICOLAMexicola

  • Origin: California.
  • Medium vigour.
  • It tolerates alkaline soils and low temperatures.
  • It is sensitive to salinity as most of the rootstocks of this breed, tolerating up to 150 mg of chloride.
  • It has affinity with Hass, Fuerte and Bacon varieties with which it gives high productions.
  • It starts producing at three years.

 WATER-HOLEWater-hole

  • Origin: California.
  • Medium vigour.
  • It tolerates moderate alkaline soils.
  • It resists low temperatures very good.
  • It is sensitive to chlorides but it supports higher salt concentrations than Mexicola.
  • It has also very good affinity with commercial varieties with which it gives large size fruits and high productions.
  • It starts producing at three years.

ANTILLEAN BREED ROOTSTOCKS

Reproduction by seed

NACHARnachar

  • Origin: Israel.
  • This rootstock is very vigorous.
  • It gives very homogeneous plantations.
  • It can be grown in alkaline soils where other rootstock can't survive.
  • It tolerates salinity waters greater than 500 mg of chloride.
  • Hass variety is very productive with this rootstock, giving large sizes.
  • It starts producing at three years.Origen: Israel

MAOZMAOZ-S

  • Origin: Israel.
  • Little vigorous tree. Highly recommended for very intensive plantations with layouts of 5 m x 5 m which can be maintained for many years.
  • It doesn't tolerate low temperatures.
  • It grows well in highly calcareous soils.
  • It is the most resistant rootstock to salinity, with a tolerance up to 800 mg. of chlorides.
  • Hass variety produces very good harvests with large sizes fruits.
  • It starts producing at three years.

LULA (Hybrid Antillean-Guatemalan)LULA

  • Origin: Florida (USA).
  • Very vigorous tree.
  • It is not recommendable in very cold areas.
  • It grows well in slightly alkaline soils.
  • Moderate tolerance to salinity 250/300 mg. of chlorides.
  • It is highly productive with Hass and Fuerte varieties.
  • It starts producing at 3-4 years.

CLONAL ROOTSTOCKS

 Patrones Clonales

This technique is a big advance in avocado multiplication, avoiding the problems of sexual reproduction or by seeds, such as genetic variability.

Thanks to clonation we get uniformity in characteristics of fruit, homogeneous and less alternating productions and also uniformity in trees of the same plot.

The cloned plant has the same genetic characters of the mother plant, faithfully reproducing the behavior of this. This allows the farmer to give added security in agronomic performance and plantation development.

DUKE-7

DUKE-7
Duke-7 roots
  • Clonal reproduction.
  • Mexican breed.
  • Origin: California (USA).
  • Medium vigour tree.
  • It is the reference standard for all new rootstocks that appear in the world.
  • It is highly tolerant to Phytophthora cinnamomi.
  • It is very resistant to low temperatures.
  • It develops well in alkaline soils.
  • It gives big productions and great size fruits.
  • It has a big affinity with commercial varieties.
  • It starts producing at 2-3 years.Reproducción clonal

TORO CANYON

TORO CANYON
Toro Canyon roots
  • Clonal reproduction.
  • Mexican breed.
  • Origin: California (USA).
  • Selected rootstock from a stem due to his tolerance to P. cinnamomi and P. citrícola.
  • Compact tree, very vigorous and resistant to cold.
  • It grows well in clayish and calcareous soils.
  • It tolerates slightly saline waters.
  • It has good affinity with Hass variety.
  • It is an excellent producer.
  • It is one of the best avocado rootstocks for its qualities and agronomic benefits.
  • It starts producing at 2-3 years.

Patrones Clonales

Clonal Plant

Selected new rootstocks by our nursery:

ALBAIDA

ALBAIDA
Albaida roots
  • Clonal reproduction.
  • Guatemalan Antillean breed.
  • Origin: Spain.
  • Moderately vigorous tree with Hass and Campe varieties.
  • It is a rootstock we have obtained from a tree of a Lula seed with which we have been working since 2.000. We point out its skills to live in a soil infested with R. necatrix and P. cinnamomi and with 26% clay.
  • With this rootstock we are solving many problems in plantations where fungi don't allow growing other avocados rootstocks.
  • Average resistance to salinity 250/300 mg of chloride.
  • Average resistance to alkaline soils.
  • It is highly productive with Hass and Campe varieties.
  • It starts producing at 3 years.

ATKINSON

ATKINSON
Atkinson roots
  • Guatemalan Antillean breed.
  • Origin: Australia.
  • Tree moderately vigorous and very compact.
  • Rootstock that tolerates well the calcareous soils.
  • Average resistance to salinity 200/250 mg of chloride.
  • It is moderately resistant to the Rosellinia necatrix.
  • It gives a great size fruit and more wrinkled with the variety Hass.
  • It has very good affinity with commercial varieties.
  • It starts producing at 3-4 years.
