• Highest point: 400 m above sea level.
  • Soil texture: permeable and well drained. Most of the rootstocks can not tolerate more than 20% of clay. Only some of the rootstocks can tolerate a higher percentage.
  • Active limestone: <10% and a maximum pH of 7.8. Some rootstocks have a pretty high tolerance (as with the rootstocks Maoz).
  • Water: Preferably less than 150 mg/l of Chloride and 100 mg/l of sodium for Mexican race patterns. A maximum of 800 mg/l of Chloride and 250 mg/l of sodium for some antillana race rootstocks.
  • Maximum and minimum temperatures: maximum 32/34ºC and minimum 2ºC.
  • Moisture in flowering time: to allow a good fruit set it have to be preferably 50/70%.
  • Winds: preferably not superior to 50/60 km/h.
  • Water requirements for 1 ha: between 125 and 160 m3 weekly for adult trees, in hottest months.
